The Politics of Business Leadership (Part 1 of 2)
Have you watched any presidential primary debates in the past few months? (They're still available courtesy of YouTube.) I'm fascinated with the variances in style among all the candidates, which tell potential voters a lot about their leadership ability. In fact, I believe this political season offers a rich leadership primer for those of us in the business world. Debates, for example, give us an indication of how each potential leader relates to competitors. Watch them and try to analyze who does the best job of disagreeing respectfully with competitors. Some come across as presidential, while others bring back memories of petty kids picking fights in back alleys. I believe respectfully disagreeing with competitors is crucial for any leader, whether you're running a country or a company. After all, a competitor today might just be a business partner (or running mate!) tomorrow.
Watching the candidates and reading about their campaign stops and speeches over time gives us an indication of their authenticity. If a candidate seems to be a radically different person in different settings, we can probably surmise something is lacking in his or her authenticity department. Why is this important? Without authenticity, it's tough to know if a leader can be trusted.
This is not to say leaders should not tailor speeches to address concerns of particular audiences -- indeed, knowing your audience and addressing them appropriately is key to effective communication.
WCF Courseware
In this three day course, attendees examine the overall WCF programming model, binding choices, host options, security issues and the use of declarative markup to specify the underlying infrastructure. Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) is an API used to build distributed applications using .NET 3.0 (and higher). WCF was designed to expose the current multitude of Windows remoting APIs (web services, MSMQ, TCP, peer-to-peer, etc) from a single unified toolkit.

Revenge of the Customer
Just Respond and Say Yes
“The answer’s yes…now what’s the question?” Customer service doesn’t get any more basic than this, unless answering the phone (and responding) is a challenge!
It’s been a long time since I’ve ranted and raved about customer service. And just when I thought I should refrain, echo’s of management guru Tom Peters’ admonishments that it’s our patriotic duty to rant and rave kept ringing through my head. Name names, he
would say. Demand that companies treat us better. Don’t accept shoddy service. Our companies can’t compete globally if we don’t beat on them locally!
